Grumman F4F-4 Wildcat 1/72

The F4F Wildcat was the US Navy’s primary carrier borne fighter aircraft at the start of the Second World War. Characterised by its stubby appearance the Wildcat had been developed as part of a successful range of pre-war biplanes and had entered service with the US Navy a year prior to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. By the time of the crucial battles for Midway and Guadalcanal the F4F-4 model had become the most numerous variant and new tactics enabled American naval and marine pilots to gain the upper hand on the previously all-conquering Mitsubishi Zero.

El F4F Wildcat fue el principal avión de combate de la US Navy al comienzo de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Caracterizado por su aspecto rechoncho, el Wildcat había sido desarrollado como parte de una exitosa gama de biplanos de preguerra y había entrado en servicio en la US Navy un año antes del ataque japonés a Pearl Harbor. En el momento de las batallas cruciales de Midway y Guadalcanal, el modelo F4F-4 se había convertido en la variante más numerosa y las nuevas tácticas permitieron a los pilotos navales y de la marina estadounidenses imponerse al hasta entonces todopoderoso Mitsubishi Zero.
