The JLTV or Joint Light Tactical Vehicle was a new US military programme, initiated to partially replace the fleet of ageing HMMWV utility vehicles. The new vehicle is intended for the US Army, Marine Corps and Special Forces.
M1278 is a heavy guns carrier. It is a baseline 4-door general-purpose version of the JLTV family. It has a shielded M2 heavy machine gun station on the roof. Alternatively it can be fitted with various remotely-controlled weapon stations, armed with the M2 12.7 mm heavy machine gun, or even lightweight 30 mm chain gun.

El JLTV o Vehículo Táctico Ligero Conjunto era un nuevo programa militar estadounidense, iniciado para sustituir parcialmente la flota de vehículos utilitarios HMMWV, que se estaban quedando obsoletos. El nuevo vehículo está destinado al Ejército, la Infantería de Marina y las Fuerzas Especiales de los Estados Unidos.
El M1278 es un vehículo de transporte de armas pesadas. Se trata de una versión básica de 4 puertas para uso general de la familia JLTV. Cuenta con una estación blindada para ametralladora pesada M2 en el techo. También puede equiparse con diversas estaciones de armas controladas a distancia, armadas con la ametralladora pesada M2 de 12,7 mm o incluso con una ametralladora ligera de 30 mm.
