This is the seventh Modelling Manual in our relatively new series about scale modelling where our aim is to bring a lot of concentrated information about painting and general modelling techniques for all modellers at a competitive retail price.
Each manual will deal with a specific topic in detail, offering a lot of different approaches and techniques and, in most cases, written by one author. The contents will be carefully selected and presented in a way that all readers should find something new to try and to adapt to their own methods. Each book will have high quality photos and a detailed text so the reader can easily follow the progress of the assembly and painting of each theme, to help adopt new modelling techniques and different approaches.
In previous editions the length of each theme was limited due to the number of pages taken for other content, but here there are no such limitations. Each theme will be presented in a most detailed and explanatory manner so there will be no omissions or unanswered questions.
Depending on the themes and contents, real painted colour chips of hues and mixes will be added with information on how to use them. In this series we will include various modelling aspects from Historic and Fantasy, Scale Models, Dioramas, Vignettes, Figures, Busts, Techniques and History You Can Model.
In this issue we’ll cover the detailed painting process of a Viking large 1/10 scale bust (with some fantasy elements) from the well-known South Korean company Nuts Planet. The master artist Ernesto Reyes Stalhuth explains in 28 pages, his painting process that includes how to use paintbrushes, the airbrush and a wet palette. Please note that he also wrote down the approximate mixing proportions for brush painting using a wet palette, and for airbrushing (exact match). All these are covered in 91 step-by-step photos.

Este es el séptimo manual de modelismo de nuestra relativamente nueva serie sobre modelismo a escala, en la que nuestro objetivo es ofrecer mucha información concentrada sobre pintura y técnicas generales de modelismo para todos los modelistas a un precio de venta competitivo.
Cada manual tratará un tema específico en detalle, ofreciendo muchos enfoques y técnicas diferentes y, en la mayoría de los casos, escrito por un solo autor. Los contenidos se seleccionarán cuidadosamente y se presentarán de forma que todos los lectores encuentren algo nuevo que probar y adaptar a sus propios métodos. Cada libro tendrá fotos de alta calidad y un texto detallado para que el lector pueda seguir fácilmente el progreso del montaje y la pintura de cada tema, para ayudar a adoptar nuevas técnicas de modelado y enfoques diferentes.
En ediciones anteriores, la extensión de cada tema era limitada debido al número de páginas que se dedicaban a otros contenidos, pero aquí no existen tales limitaciones. Cada tema se presentará de la forma más detallada y explicativa posible, para que no haya omisiones ni preguntas sin respuesta.
En función de los temas y contenidos, se añadirán fichas de colores reales pintados de tonos y mezclas con información sobre cómo utilizarlos. En esta serie incluiremos diversos aspectos del modelismo, desde la Historia y la Fantasía, los Modelos a Escala, los Dioramas, las Viñetas, las Figuras, los Bustos, las Técnicas y la Historia que se puede modelar.
En este número cubriremos el detallado proceso de pintura de un busto Vikingo de gran tamaño a escala 1/10 (con algunos elementos de fantasía) de la conocida empresa surcoreana Nuts Planet. El maestro Ernesto Reyes Stalhuth explica en 28 páginas su proceso de pintura, que incluye cómo utilizar los pinceles, el aerógrafo y una paleta húmeda. Tenga en cuenta que también escribió las proporciones aproximadas de mezcla para pintar con pincel utilizando una paleta húmeda, y para aerografía (coincidencia exacta). Todo ello está recogido en 91 fotos paso a paso.

Each book features high quality photos and a detailed text so readers can easily follow the progress of the assembly and painting of each subject, and assist in adopting new modelling techniques and different approaches.
This time Master Artist Ernesto Reyes Stalhuth explains in detail how he painted the Young Miniatures Bust (ref: YM1864) of a 1/10th scale British Paratrooper of World War Two wearing a camouflage Denison Smock.
The artist used a combination of airbrush and paintbrush to get the most of each tool in 46 detailed step-by-step photographs with explanatory captions, as part of an overall total of 56 illustrations revealing all the secrets on how Ernesto painted the flesh (14 photos); the helmet and chin strap (8 photos); the camouflage pattern and equipment (24 photos); to get a realistic result. The artist used a combination of acrylic paints (some of them metallic) and acrylic inks. See how he managed to represent realistic flesh tones, the camouflage net, fabric, canvas, metals and much more…

En esta ocasión, el maestro Ernesto Reyes Stalhuth nos explica con detalle cómo pintó el busto de Young Miniatures (ref: YM1864) de un paracaidista británico de la Segunda Guerra Mundial a escala 1/10 que lleva un blusón Denison de camuflaje.
El artista utilizó una combinación de aerógrafo y pincel para sacar el máximo partido a cada herramienta en 46 detalladas fotografías paso a paso con pies de foto explicativos, como parte de un total de 56 ilustraciones que revelan todos los secretos sobre cómo Ernesto pintó la carne (14 fotos); el casco y la barbilla (8 fotos); el patrón de camuflaje y el equipo (24 fotos); para obtener un resultado realista. El artista utilizó una combinación de pinturas acrílicas (algunas de ellas metálicas) y tintas acrílicas. In this particular issue we have three articles by three different artists. The first article, by Theodosis Giannakidis, is an in-depth description of the detailed construction of a desert diorama featuring a Panzer I tank, two resin figures and a palm tree. The concept behind the diorama with 21 in-progress photos depicts a mechanical problem with the tank where the crew members are trying to fix it, whilst also mindful to the fact that enemy forces are close by. The second article is a short, two-page feature of a DAK AFV Commander by Toshihiro Sano painted with Tamiya Enamels. The artist explains in detail his way of painting and includes all his paint mixes. The third article by Christos Katselos is a detailed step-by-step feature on how to paint a DAK Panzer Crew using various Vallejo Acrylics. There are 43 step-by-step photos that reveal all the necessary information for painting the DAK crew figures.
In total this book has 96 high quality photos, 72 of which are step-by-step or in-progress sequences, with a very detailed text, so the reader can easily follow the whole procedure in detail from start to finish. El concepto detrás del diorama con 21 fotos en progreso muestra un problema mecánico con el tanque donde los miembros de la tripulación están tratando de arreglarlo mientras son conscientes del hecho de que las fuerzas enemigas están cerca. Each book has high quality photos and a detailed text enabling readers to easily follow the progress of assembly and painting methods and help adopt new modelling techniques and different approaches.
This particular issue will cover in depth the construction of a diorama based on wartime photos and events. The main theme is a detachment of German Forces from Kampfgruppe Hansen 1st SS Panzer Division at Poteau on 18th December 1944 – two days into the Battle of the Bulge – after setting up an Ambush of an American convoy of the 14th Cavalry Group. This big operation by the German Forces, known as Ardennes Offensive, was the last in such a large scale before the end of War. This book includes 60 high quality photos, 30 of which are in-progress, and a very detailed text, so the reader can easily follow the whole procedure in detail from start to finish. The author included all the sets, accessories, and paint codes used to add all the details to the diorama as well as the full interior of the Tamiya M8 armoured car.

El tema principal es un destacamento de fuerzas alemanas del Kampfgruppe Hansen 1ª División Panzer de las SS en Poteau el 18 de diciembre de 1944 – dos días después de la Batalla de las Ardenas – tras tender una emboscada a un convoy americano del 14º Grupo de Caballería. Esta gran operación de las fuerzas alemanas, conocida como Ofensiva de las Ardenas, fue la última a tan gran escala antes del final de la guerra. Welcome to “Diorama Modelling 3” in Mr Black Publications’ Scale Model Handbook Series, third in a series written by Master Modeller Vasilis Triantafyllou that includes five different creations. “The Diorama Art – Between History and Myth” by Vasilis Triantafyllou is perhaps the most impressive and complete version in our Diorama Modelling series and we are very pleased to have the opportunity to release this edition, featuring five award-winning creations made almost entirely from scratch. Within the 100 pages of this book, the five creations between “History & Myth” are presented in a glamorous and illustrative way that we know will command your attention.
I met Vasilis for the first time a few years ago and was lucky enough to admire his work, “The Black Pearl Treasure” at the IPMS show in Greece. His creations are truly breath taking and perhaps no recordings or photographs of them would not fully create the emotions that would fill the viewer when discovering them “in the flesh” for the first time, but the reader will have the chance to admire and learn the secrets of a Master of The Diorama Art.
“The Holy Lake” is the first feature in 54mm scale and has been developed intermittently. Here are presented in detail innovative manufacturing and painting techniques and unique construction materials have been used. The result is impressive as well as the study and work that was done before any construction began. Similar techniques have been followed in the other dioramas and emphasize the diversity of each one.
“The Caribbean Village” at 54mm is the second theme of the book, presenting several new elements and additions to the creative techniques that were used earlier in the first theme.
The third theme is “The Castle” in 75mm scale with some stunning elements that carry you back to 17th century Europe.
“The Black Pearl Treasure” is the fourth, and perhaps one of the most impressive subjects we’ve ever seen in the 75mm scale.
“The Retreat 1812” is purely a historical Shadow Box diary in which many 54mm figures have been used. The despair and destruction experienced by Napoleon’s soldiers is expressed on their faces and the artist manages to convey strong emotions to the viewer.

“El arte del diorama: entre la historia y el mito” por Vasilis Triantafyllou
Bienvenido a “Diorama Modelling 3” de la serie de manuales de modelismo a escala de Mr Black Publications, el tercero de una serie escrita por el maestro modelista Vasilis Triantafyllou que incluye cinco creaciones diferentes. “El Arte del Diorama – Entre la Historia y el Mito” de Vasilis Triantafyllou es quizás la versión más impresionante y completa de nuestra serie Diorama Modelling y estamos muy contentos de tener la oportunidad de lanzar esta edición, que presenta cinco creaciones premiadas hechas casi completamente desde cero. En las 100 páginas de este libro, las cinco creaciones entre “Historia y Mito” se presentan de una forma glamurosa e ilustrativa que sabemos que llamará su atención.
Conocí a Vasilis por primera vez hace unos años y tuve la suerte de admirar su obra, “El tesoro de la perla negra”, en la feria IPMS de Grecia. Sus creaciones son realmente impresionantes y quizás ninguna grabación o fotografía de las mismas no crearía plenamente las emociones que llenarían al espectador al descubrirlas “en carne y hueso” por primera vez, pero el lector tendrá la oportunidad de admirar y aprender los secretos de un Maestro del Arte del Diorama.
“El Lago Sagrado” es el primer largometraje en escala de 54 mm y se ha desarrollado de forma intermitente. Aquí se presentan en detalle innovadoras técnicas de fabricación y pintura y se han utilizado materiales de construcción únicos. El resultado es impresionante, así como el estudio y el trabajo que se realizó antes de comenzar cualquier construcción. En los demás dioramas se han seguido técnicas similares y destacan la diversidad de cada uno de ellos.
“La aldea caribeña”, de 54 mm, es el segundo tema del libro y presenta varios elementos nuevos y adiciones a las técnicas creativas que se utilizaron anteriormente en el primer tema.
El tercer tema es “El Castillo” en escala de 75mm con algunos elementos impresionantes que te transportan a la Europa del siglo XVII.
“El Tesoro de la Perla Negra” es el cuarto, y quizás uno de los temas más impresionantes que hemos visto en la escala de 75mm.
“La Retirada 1812” es puramente un diario histórico de Shadow Box en el que se han utilizado muchas figuras de 54mm. La desesperación y la destrucción experimentada por los soldados de Napoleón se expresa en sus rostros y el artista consigue transmitir fuertes emociones al espectador.
Para terminar, debo dar las gracias en primer lugar al artista y escritor de esta increíble obra, Vasilis Triantafyllou, y a su hijo Dimitris Triantafyllou, que ha editado las fotografías… También hay que dar las gracias a Christos Katselos por su excelente traducción al inglés y a nuestro incansable corrector de pruebas en inglés Ken Jones. La promoción y realización de este proyecto no habría sido posible sin la ayuda de Zacharias Andriopoulos.
