You are holding the 24th issue of “Figure Modelling” in Mr Black Publications’ Scale Model Handbook series. This is actually the 32nd book we’ve published so far, with 24 of our titles covering figure modelling; two on modelling dioramas, three are our popular “Modelling the Second World War” specials and a further three in our new “Theme Collection Special Edition Series”.
This time our Figure Modelling book includes 10 articles from seven well-known artists, who offer lots of tips and techniques about modelling miniature figures, busts, and vignettes from ancient times to the Second World War. Chosen subjects are covered in detail and illustrated with step-by-step photos and explanatory texts.
Sergey Popovichenko returns with a six-page, step-by-step Evocatus article. He shows in detail the painting of a veteran Roman soldier using AK-Interactive and Vallejo acrylics.
Ernesto Reyes Stalhuth returns, this time with a Roman Legionary bust of the 1st century AD explaining over six pages his non-metallic painting method for large-scale miniatures.
Next is two-page article featuring a Templar Sergeant, After the Battle, c.1250, a classic historical bust, painted by Zacharias Andriopoulos who explains how to paint a medieval Knight Templar bust using acrylic paints and Vallejo Metal Color. Zacharias also presents another two-page article of a fantasy bust, The Old Dragon using acrylics and printers’ inks.
A four-page article follows by Qianwei Shi presenting the Ambiorix, Chief of Eubones explaining how he gets special metal effects on miniature figures without using metallic paints.
Christos Katselos is a regular contributor and returns with three articles covering a total of eight pages in the book. The first is fantasy – Amaryne, the border protector where Christos explains how to paint a large-scale female bust using a wet palette of acrylics paints over four pages. The second two-page article is “Sea Wolf”, a WWII German U-Boat Commander bust where he uses acrylics. The final two-page article is “War Daddy”, a WWII US Tank Commander. This figure is based on the movie character played by Brad Pitt and has been painted using acrylics.
David Hernanz Caldevilla is up next with a six-page article featuring the classic figure of a German Stormtrooper 1918 where he shows how to create an eye-catching First World War figure with scenic groundwork using commercial items allied to some scratch building techniques.
“German Fallschirmjäger with MG42, Russia 1943” by Toshihiro Sano closes Figure Modelling 24. Toshihiro presents us with a 12-page step-by-step article revealing all his secrets on painting a large-scale full figure in winter uniform using Tamiya enamels.

Tienes en tus manos el número 24 de “Modelado de figuras” de la serie Scale Model Handbook de Mr Black Publications. En realidad, este es el libro número 32 que hemos publicado hasta ahora, con 24 de nuestros títulos que tratan sobre el modelado de figuras; dos sobre el modelado de dioramas, tres son nuestros populares especiales “Modelado de la Segunda Guerra Mundial” y otros tres en nuestra nueva “Serie de ediciones especiales de la colección temática”.
En esta ocasión, nuestro libro sobre modelado de figuras incluye 10 artículos de siete conocidos artistas, que ofrecen multitud de consejos y técnicas sobre el modelado de figuras en miniatura, bustos y viñetas desde la antigüedad hasta la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Los temas elegidos se tratan con detalle y se ilustran con fotos paso a paso y textos explicativos.
Sergey Popovichenko vuelve con un artículo de seis páginas sobre Evocatus paso a paso. Muestra con detalle la pintura de un veterano soldado romano utilizando AK-Interactive y acrílicos Vallejo.
Ernesto Reyes Stalhuth vuelve, esta vez con un busto de legionario romano del siglo I d.C., explicando en seis páginas su método de pintura no metálica para miniaturas de gran tamaño.
A continuación, un artículo de dos páginas con un sargento templario, Después de la batalla, c.1250, un busto histórico clásico, pintado por Zacharias Andriopoulos, que explica cómo pintar un busto de caballero templario medieval utilizando pinturas acrílicas y Vallejo Metal Color. Zacharias también presenta otro artículo de dos páginas de un busto de fantasía, El Viejo Dragón, utilizando acrílicos y tintas de imprenta.
Sigue un artículo de cuatro páginas de Qianwei Shi presentando el Ambiorix, Jefe de Eubones explicando cómo consigue efectos metálicos especiales en las figuras en miniatura sin utilizar pinturas metálicas.

This volume is the 35th edition in Mr Black Publications’ “Scale Model Handbook” series, and the fourth in that series entirely dedicated to what took place between 1939-1945, which has since been described in Western histories as “The Second World War”.
The wartime themes herein are numerous and feature extended articles about models, dioramas, vignettes and figures, especially in 1/35 scale, where we’ve managed to assemble many representative examples from our well-known regular contributors, who’ve been with us from the beginning. Este volumen es la 35ª edición de la serie “Scale Model Handbook” de Mr Black Publications, y la cuarta de dicha serie dedicada íntegramente a lo que ocurrió entre 1939-1945, que desde entonces se describe en las historias occidentales como “La Segunda Guerra Mundial”.

Welcome to “Diorama Modelling 3” in Mr Black Publications’ Scale Model Handbook Series, third in a series written by Master Modeller Vasilis Triantafyllou that includes five different creations. “The Diorama Art – Between History and Myth” by Vasilis Triantafyllou is perhaps the most impressive and complete version in our Diorama Modelling series and we are very pleased to have the opportunity to release this edition, featuring five award-winning creations made almost entirely from scratch. Within the 100 pages of this book, the five creations between “History & Myth” are presented in a glamorous and illustrative way that we know will command your attention.
I met Vasilis for the first time a few years ago and was lucky enough to admire his work, “The Black Pearl Treasure” at the IPMS show in Greece. His creations are truly breath taking and perhaps no recordings or photographs of them would not fully create the emotions that would fill the viewer when discovering them “in the flesh” for the first time, but the reader will have the chance to admire and learn the secrets of a Master of The Diorama Art.
“The Holy Lake” is the first feature in 54mm scale and has been developed intermittently. Here are presented in detail innovative manufacturing and painting techniques and unique construction materials have been used. The result is impressive as well as the study and work that was done before any construction began. Similar techniques have been followed in the other dioramas and emphasize the diversity of each one.
“The Caribbean Village” at 54mm is the second theme of the book, presenting several new elements and additions to the creative techniques that were used earlier in the first theme.
The third theme is “The Castle” in 75mm scale with some stunning elements that carry you back to 17th century Europe.
“The Black Pearl Treasure” is the fourth, and perhaps one of the most impressive subjects we’ve ever seen in the 75mm scale.
“The Retreat 1812” is purely a historical Shadow Box diary in which many 54mm figures have been used. The despair and destruction experienced by Napoleon’s soldiers is expressed on their faces and the artist manages to convey strong emotions to the viewer.
In closing, I must first of all thank the artist and writer of this amazing work, Vasilis Triantafyllou, and his son Dimitris Triantafyllou who edited the photographs… Thanks are also due to Christos Katselos for his excellent English translation and our tireless English proof editor Ken Jones. Bienvenido a “Diorama Modelling 3” de la serie de manuales de modelismo a escala de Mr Black Publications, el tercero de una serie escrita por el maestro modelista Vasilis Triantafyllou que incluye cinco creaciones diferentes. “El Arte del Diorama – Entre la Historia y el Mito” de Vasilis Triantafyllou es quizás la versión más impresionante y completa de nuestra serie Diorama Modelling y estamos muy contentos de tener la oportunidad de lanzar esta edición, que presenta cinco creaciones premiadas hechas casi completamente desde cero. En las 100 páginas de este libro, las cinco creaciones entre “Historia y Mito” se presentan de una forma glamurosa e ilustrativa que sabemos que llamará su atención.
Conocí a Vasilis por primera vez hace unos años y tuve la suerte de admirar su obra, “El tesoro de la perla negra”, en la feria IPMS de Grecia. Sus creaciones son realmente impresionantes y quizás ninguna grabación o fotografía de las mismas no crearía plenamente las emociones que llenarían al espectador al descubrirlas “en carne y hueso” por primera vez, pero el lector tendrá la oportunidad de admirar y aprender los secretos de un Maestro del Arte del Diorama.
“El Lago Sagrado” es el primer largometraje en escala de 54 mm y se ha desarrollado de forma intermitente. Aquí se presentan en detalle innovadoras técnicas de fabricación y pintura y se han utilizado materiales de construcción únicos. El resultado es impresionante, así como el estudio y el trabajo que se realizó antes de comenzar cualquier construcción. En los demás dioramas se han seguido técnicas similares y destacan la diversidad de cada uno de ellos.
“La aldea caribeña”, de 54 mm, es el segundo tema del libro y presenta varios elementos nuevos y adiciones a las técnicas creativas que se utilizaron anteriormente en el primer tema.
El tercer tema es “El Castillo” en escala de 75mm con algunos elementos impresionantes que te transportan a la Europa del siglo XVII.
“El Tesoro de la Perla Negra” es el cuarto, y quizás uno de los temas más impresionantes que hemos visto en la escala de 75mm.
“La Retirada 1812” es puramente un diario histórico de Shadow Box en el que se han utilizado muchas figuras de 54mm. La desesperación y la destrucción experimentada por los soldados de Napoleón se expresa en sus rostros y el artista consigue transmitir fuertes emociones al espectador.
Para terminar, debo dar las gracias en primer lugar al artista y escritor de esta increíble obra, Vasilis Triantafyllou, y a su hijo Dimitris Triantafyllou, que ha editado las fotografías… También hay que dar las gracias a Christos Katselos por su excelente traducción al inglés y a nuestro incansable corrector de pruebas en inglés Ken Jones. La promoción y realización de este proyecto no habría sido posible sin la ayuda de Zacharias Andriopoulos.
