The 127mm Mk 45 is a naval gun turret of US origin. It was developed in the 1960’s by United Defense as a lighter alternative to the earlier Mk 42 turret. The Mk 45 is the smallest 127mm gun turret in the world and can be considered a direct competitor to the Italian 127mm Compatto. The Mk 45 is a lighter and easier to install design while the Compatto has a higher rate of fire and has more ammunition ready to fire. Both guns use the same US standard 127mm ammunition.

La torreta Mk 45 de 127 mm es un cañón naval de origen estadounidense. Fue desarrollada en la década de 1960 por United Defense como alternativa más ligera a la anterior torreta Mk 42. La Mk 45 es la torreta de 127 mm más pequeña del mundo y puede considerarse un competidor directo de la Compatto italiana de 127 mm. El Mk 45 es un diseño más ligero y fácil de instalar, mientras que el Compatto tiene una mayor cadencia de fuego y dispone de más munición lista para disparar. Ambos cañones utilizan la misma munición estándar estadounidense de 127 mm.
