The armed forces of the National Front for the Liberation of Vietnam (FLN) consisted of both units belonging to the regular army of North Vietnam and irregular guerrilla units. The term “Vietcong” was used to refer generically to soldiers of the FLN but, in common iconography, represents irregular guerrilla troops. The Vietcong were armed with Soviet-made individual equipment such as the ubiquitous AK-47 Kalašnikov, or the SKS semi-automatic rifle. They took part in the massive Têt Offensive on Vietnamese New Year’s Eve in January 1968.

Las fuerzas armadas del Frente Nacional para la Liberación de Vietnam (FLN) estaban formadas tanto por unidades pertenecientes al ejército regular de Vietnam del Norte como por unidades guerrilleras irregulares. El término «Vietcong» se utilizaba para referirse genéricamente a los soldados del FLN pero, en la iconografía común, representa a las tropas guerrilleras irregulares. El Vietcong iba armado con material individual de fabricación soviética, como el omnipresente AK-47 Kalašnikov, o el fusil semiautomático SKS. Participaron en la masiva Ofensiva del Têt en la Nochevieja vietnamita de enero de 1968.
