The Volkswagen Golf is a production icon of the Wolfsburg automaker. It was introduced in the spring of 1974 and immediately became a highly successful product. In fact, the first series (1974-1983) adopted technical solutions that were highly appreciated by the market at the time : water-cooled front engine, front-wheel drive, solid and sturdy bodywork with a functional yet attractive design. Good value for money was the real “competitive lever” that decreed the Golf’s success. At the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1975, the Golf GTI sports version was unveiled, which adopted the 110-hp 1,600 cc engine capable of high performance. The following year, mass production of the Golf GTI was started and in just two months it achieved excellent sales in many European and non-European countries.

El Volkswagen Golf es un icono de la producción del fabricante de automóviles de Wolfsburgo. Se presentó en la primavera de 1974 e inmediatamente se convirtió en un producto de gran éxito. De hecho, la primera serie (1974-1983) adoptó soluciones técnicas muy apreciadas por el mercado de la época: motor delantero refrigerado por agua, tracción delantera, carrocería sólida y robusta con un diseño funcional a la vez que atractivo. La buena relación calidad-precio fue la verdadera «palanca competitiva» que decretó el éxito del Golf. En el Salón del Automóvil de Fráncfort de 1975 se presentó la versión deportiva Golf GTI, que adoptó el motor de 1.600 cc y 110 CV capaz de ofrecer altas prestaciones. Al año siguiente, se inició la producción en serie del Golf GTI y en sólo dos meses logró excelentes ventas en muchos países europeos y no europeos.
