In 1980 during the Geneva Auto Show, its new two-door coupe Audi Quattro was unveiled by the German automaker from Ingolstad. Produced throughout the 1980s, the Italian name highlights its main feature: four-wheel drive. All-wheel drive on a vehicle that aimed to generate large numbers in the market was indeed an important novelty at the time. The “Quattro” in fact guaranteed good performance combined with excellent road holding on all kinds of surfaces. The longitudinal front engine was in fact capable of delivering appreciable performance. A competition version was also made, which debuted in the 1981 World Rally Championship achieving good results. The success of the “Quattro” is still renewed today, so much so that the Italian name has become a true “brand” that identifies Audi’s entire newer range of all-wheel-drive cars.

En 1980, durante el Salón del Automóvil de Ginebra, el fabricante alemán de Ingolstad presentó su nuevo coupé de dos puertas Audi Quattro. Producido durante toda la década de 1980, el nombre italiano destaca su principal característica: la tracción a las cuatro ruedas. La tracción a las cuatro ruedas en un vehículo que pretendía generar grandes cifras en el mercado era, de hecho, una novedad importante en aquella época. De hecho, el «Quattro» garantizaba unas buenas prestaciones combinadas con un excelente comportamiento en carretera sobre todo tipo de superficies. De hecho, el motor delantero longitudinal era capaz de ofrecer unas prestaciones apreciables. También se fabricó una versión de competición, que debutó en el Campeonato del Mundo de Rallyes de 1981 obteniendo buenos resultados. El éxito del «Quattro» sigue renovándose hoy en día, hasta el punto de que el nombre italiano se ha convertido en una auténtica «marca» que identifica a toda la nueva gama de coches de tracción total de Audi.
