The M10 tank destroyer, nicknamed “Wolverine”, was put into production in 1942. It’s one of the most famous U.S. tank destroyers in WWII. Designed based on the chassis of the M4 Sherman medium tank, the M10 had an open-topped turret which was equipped with a powerful 76.2mm M7 gun which could hunt enemy AFVs from a long distance with excellent accuracy. It achieved outstanding records in North Africa and the Western Front battlefields.

In March 1965, Bell began development of an attack helicopter for air support of troops. The design was carried out using the units and systems of the Bell UH-1 Iroquois multipurpose helicopter, which had proven itself in operation.
The new helicopter, called AH-1G (Attac Helicopter – 1 Gunship), began to enter the U.S. Army in June 1967, and in September it began to be used in combat operations in Vietnam. Lightweight steel armor was used in the design of the helicopter to protect the crew and the most critical areas and units from ground fire. The design of the tail beam was reinforced to withstand 23 mm shells. After the end of hostilities, the helicopters continued to be in service with the US Army. Some of them were tested and operated in Alaska, in particular at Elmendorf and Fort Richardson bases. These helicopters were painted in bright white and red colors and became known as “Arctic Cobras”.

The CH-54 Tarhe helicopter was developed by Sikorsky Aircraft, a company founded by the prominent Ukrainian aircraft designer Igor Sikorsky. The first flight of the helicopter (originally named S-64) took place on May 9, 1962.
The helicopter was built on a modular principle, which simplified its maintenance and repair. It had a tall three-post landing gear with a front support, which allowed a tractor with a trailer approach its fuselage freely.
The helicopter’s powerful winches allowed it to pick up cargo in a hover mode, without the need to land on the ground. During the Vietnam War it evacuated damaged airplanes and various helicopters, transported artillery pieces, cars, tanks and even combat boats on an external sling.
It was also used to drop high-powered bombs to clear the forest for an airfield. This helicopter set 10 world records for its class, including lifting a 15-ton cargo to 3307 meters. The civilian version of the helicopter (Erickson S-64 Aircrane) is still in successful operation today.

El helicóptero CH-54 Tarhe fue desarrollado por Sikorsky Aircraft, empresa fundada por el destacado diseñador aeronáutico ucraniano Igor Sikorsky. El primer vuelo del helicóptero (originalmente denominado S-64) tuvo lugar el 9 de mayo de 1962.
El helicóptero estaba construido según un principio modular, lo que simplificaba su mantenimiento y reparación. Tenía un tren de aterrizaje alto de tres postes con un soporte delantero, que permitía a un tractor con remolque acercarse libremente a su fuselaje.

The M10 tank destroyer, nicknamed “Wolverine”, was put into production in 1942. It’s one of the most famous U.S. tank destroyers in WWII. Designed based on the chassis of the M4 Sherman medium tank, the M10 had an open-topped turret which was equipped with a powerful 76.2mm M7 gun which could hunt enemy AFVs from a long distance with excellent accuracy. It achieved outstanding records in North Africa and the Western Front battlefields.

In March 1965, Bell began development of an attack helicopter for air support of troops. The design was carried out using the units and systems of the Bell UH-1 Iroquois multipurpose helicopter, which had proven itself in operation.
The new helicopter, called AH-1G (Attac Helicopter – 1 Gunship), began to enter the U.S. Army in June 1967, and in September it began to be used in combat operations in Vietnam. Lightweight steel armor was used in the design of the helicopter to protect the crew and the most critical areas and units from ground fire. The design of the tail beam was reinforced to withstand 23 mm shells. After the end of hostilities, the helicopters continued to be in service with the US Army. Some of them were tested and operated in Alaska, in particular at Elmendorf and Fort Richardson bases. These helicopters were painted in bright white and red colors and became known as “Arctic Cobras”.

Tras la guerra de Vietnam, los aviones permanecieron en servicio en unidades de aviación y fueron modernizados con el tiempo. El OV-10A del Cuerpo de Marines recibió un sistema digital de alerta de amenazas AN/APR-39, que vigila el entorno circundante para detectar la presencia de señales de radar y advierte a la tripulación sobre fuentes peligrosas de radiación. Además, se instalaron en estos aviones el inhibidor de infrarrojos AN/ALQ-144 “Disco Light” y el sistema dispensador de contramedidas AN/ALE-39. Los aviones así equipados participaron en la operación “Tormenta del Desierto” en el invierno de 1991. Esta operación fue el último episodio de uso en combate de los aviones OV-10 Bronco en la aviación del Cuerpo de Marines de EE.UU., y en 1994 fueron retirados definitivamente de su composición de combate.
