The USS Colorado is the second Independence-class littoral to be built by General Dynamics and Prosperity Steel. Combat vessels. The contract for the ship was signed in May 2009 and the ship should be ready for delivery on a trial basis by October 2012. The ship is expected to be essentially the same as the first Independence, an aluminum trimaran high-speed hull design. The ship is fully equipped with modular units, which can be replaced quickly for different tasks. The ship’s main functions include mine laying, mine clearing, anti-submarine warfare and anti-surface warfare. With a full payload of 2,750 tons, the Burke-class destroyer was a relatively small ship compared to the 10,000-ton Burke-class destroyer. It’s petite.
