ENGLISH

In February 1939 the order was placed to develop a new Flammpanzer (flame jet tank) on the chassis of the tank II. MAN and Daimler-Benz were asked to submit prototype tanks for testing. A Type II D tank equipped with two flamethrowers on the front fender was fabricated, and each flamethrower could flex the range of 180 degrees. The two flamethrowers each have an independent 160-liter fuel tank, enough to inject 80 times in a 25-meter range. The small machine gun turret is provided for self-defense. The car started production in January 1940, and all variants were carried out by Wigman and Kassel. A total of 90 such tanks were completed in early 1941 to equip the (F) 100 and (F) 101 armored divisions during the Barbarossa operation of the German invasion of the former Soviet Union. These tanks were later placed in the 18th and 7th armored divisions and served until the end of 1941. After that, all the surviving tanks were returned to Germany and then converted into the Weasel II anti-tank self-propelled artillery.
