Schwerer Wehrmachtsschlepper (sWS) semi-tracked vehicle was originally designed to fill the gap between the light semi-tracked transportation Sd.kfz.250/251 and the heavy-duty semi-tracked transportation vehicle Sd.kfz.6/7/9 and must be inexpensive. Hitler issued design instructions on May 7, 1942, because such a vehicle was desperately needed on the Russian battlefield. sWS is designed and produced by Busin-NAG. The previous prototype was completed in the spring of 1943. The Ringhofer-Tatra plant in Tsjechoslovakia is mainly responsible for the production of sWS. The car has three basic models: conventional transport without armor, armored chassis and self-propelled anti-aircraft chassis. The conventional armorless transport model has a semi-closed cab made of stamped metal similar to a truck. The rear compartment has a wooden structure and is equipped with a Maybach HL42TRKMS engine. The vehicle is mainly used for towing artillery and carrying logistics materials and personnel. For the purpose of saving resources, the design of sWS has been as simple as possible. In the later stages of the war, the production of the car was further simplified. sWS has great maneuverability and loading capacity, knowing that at the end of the war, only 820 sWS were completed.
